See You At the Pole!

Above is Senior Abigail Y. and Christian Club Advisor Mrs. June
Fall has come around again; it's time for football games, raking leaves, sweatshirts and hot chocolate; and of course, bringing in the new school year.  Some will stress, some will grow, and others will pray.  Christian Club has organized yet another yearly See You At the Pole, a time during which students and school faculty gather around the flag pole outside of the high school and spend time in prayer for not only the future of the school, but for the future of our nation.  Though the event is organized by Christian Club, any student is welcome to attend.  The gathering begins at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25.

See You At the Pole is the Christian Club's first event of this school year, but it is not the only thing they do.  At their meetings, they pray for students, faculty and our country.  Outside of their meetings, the club helps perform acts of kindness.  The club's president, Abigail Y., believes that it is their job as students to take a stand for what is right.  She also stated that if someone needs help, Christian Club will be there.  To join Christian Club, talk to Abigail Y. or Mrs. June.

The new guy on campus

"Ask any Education major and they will tell you it is very tough to get a job right out of college. It is an even more difficult task for a music education major. That is why I feel so incredibly lucky to get the job as a music teacher and band director here at Loyalsock Township High School!" said a very happy and excited, Mr. Ryan Bulgarelli.

As a Penn State Alumnus and member of the "Blue Band," Mr. Bulgarelli brings his experience and enthusiasm to the Loyalsock music program. "I absolutely use my experiences with the Blue Band for our marching band here at Loyalsock. It is what I know so of course I am going to incorporate it into our program."
Mr. Bulgarelli appreciates his high school students, their eagerness to learn and their willingness to improve. He enjoys the local community and feels that is is a great place to live and work. He specifically mentioned not only how much the students are willing work but the Band Booster Parents as well. From fund raising to transportation, they help support the band in anything they do.

Double overtime

Wow, double overtime! The soccer team went into double overtime in a big game against Southern Columbia, they tied the game with a score of 1-1. But I think the students that attended th game really helped ease the minds of the girls.
Yesterday afternoon the Loyalsock high school had a pep rally just for the soccer teams. They played to try to win for Bailey and Alonna won are out with leg injuries. The girls did a really good job tonight; keep going strong girls.

Spotlight on soccer

All eyes were on the boys' soccer team today during their game against Warrior Run. The game began at 4:30 pm on home turf.

The boys faced their long-time rivals in an intense game that left a couple players injured and several coaches hoarse. Connor M., one of the injured players, cheered on from the sidelines during the second half. The final score came out to be 2-1 with our Lancers on top. Matt H. and Josiah C. scored the two goals. Overall, the boys played a clean game with great plays.

A pep-rally in honor of the boys' and girls' soccer teams also took place earlier today. The whole school joined together to wish the two teams good luck.

Feliz Cumpleaños on Friday the thirteenth

Friday the 13th is classically known to be an unlucky day,but not this one. On this day of September 13th our very own Spanish teacher was born, and the day was all but unlucky. This teacher  shows that not all is bad on  Friday the thirteenth.
Ms. Leid otherwise known as Señorita shared her birthday with her students on Friday. Her birthday shared with the famous date of bad luck and misfortune, was all but that. Students from all grades in both the middle school and high school ran to greet her with a wish of a promising birthday after school. She  played music and danced outside her room while accepting hugs from her students.
Although her birthday has passed, be sure to wish her a belated birthday the next time you see her. She still accepts the birthday wishes.

Señorita happily sharing her birthday with her students.

New Year, New Leaders

Today was an exciting day for the Junior class of 2015! Class adviser, Dana Williams, sent out ballots containing nominees for class officers for the 2013-14 school year. The positions that are up-for-grabs are president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian.

Interestingly, the only position that had any competition was president. The nominations for this position were Brennan H. and Kaden S. The other positions only had one person running for them, which means that Lydia H. won vice president, Makenna W. won the secretary position, Nikhil S. secured the treasurer position, and Gianna R. took the prize for historian. These people are all nominated and elected in order to create a good, well-balanced body that's role doubles as class officers and school representatives. The class is doing a fantastic job at working together and creating a solid, unified group.

The election results will hopefully be released on Tuesday, September 17. Good luck to the nominees!

Carbon soufflé

It's mid-week here at Loyalsock; the time of the week where most students are bored by their classes, and would do anything to get out and have some fun. However, that didn't apply to Mr. Peterman's first block I.P.S. class this morning.
Peterman, in an attempt to liven up his lecture, showed his students an experiment they would never forget. He began with simple cup of sucrose (sugar) and slowly began to pour a vile of concentrated sulfuric acid. As he mixed the two, the simple cup of sugar began to darken in color. It began to turn coal black, and became so hot to the touch that Mr. Peterman could no longer hold it in his hands. Suddenly, gasps sounded throughout the students as the mixture exploded, erupting over the top of the cup and emitting a puff of steam.
Mr. Peterman then explained to the class that he had pulled the carbon out of the sucrose. One student  raised her hand and asked, "How did you REMOVE carbon by ADDING something?" Mr. Peterman smirked; "That's chemistry," he responded.
